letter from the editors

Before last March, the three of us discussed literature every day. Whether the conversation stemmed from an assignment or internet pieces we found while “working” on said assignment, words and their beautiful impressions provided us solace and community; until, like everyone else, we found ourselves separated from each other and the world we’d known.

We founded Ample Remains not only to reclaim these intimate conversations for ourselves, but also to invite others to join by creating a platform to promote dynamic voices that embrace our current moment. As the political landscape becomes increasingly unsettled, we cling to words that envision a better future rather than those that aim to uphold the hegemonic mythos of our bigoted past and present. The stories we tell shape who we are and who we will become: our words are us.

To the literary community, which has been more welcoming and supportive than we could have ever known to expect: thank you. This work is crucial, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the efforts put forth by those before us as well as those who come after.

To everyone who submitted their work and took the extra leap of faith it requires to submit to a new journal: this journal is for you.

To our readers: we hope you find something here that remains with you. We set out to find pieces that left an indelible mark on our minds, and we found them.

Soak them in. Let them linger for a while. Make them a little bedroom in your memory.

From our family, be well and stay inspired.

Sincerely,
Briana, Carlos, & Sydney
